Felt and Wire

This is a web page about all things paper. It is frequently updated and covers all kinds of fun topics besides paper such as stamps, letterpress and more. It will keep you busy for a little while. Have at it!

FutureMe

Here is a clever idea. Do you like the idea of a time capsule letter? This is like a virtual time capsule letter. You write a letter to yourself and then designate a delivery time for the future. And POOF! On that date the letter will be delivered to your emailbox. To maximize your fun, set the delivery date far enough ahead that you will have forgotten about the letter by the time you receive it.

Guy Petzall

Crazy, silly, funny letters to anyone and everyone along with the responses he receives.

Jackass Letters

Christopher Jorgensen is a jackass. He says that, not me. Well, he writes jackass letters anyway. He writes letters to individuals, companies, anyone really. They are wacky, sometimes amusing and full of wry observations. If you like that sort of humor where someone writes a crazy letter to someone else to see what kind of response comes back, this is the place to get your fill!

Just Write

Just Write has a very nice compendium of letter writing resources.

Letter Writers Alliance

I could not say it any better than they say it themselves…

“In this era of instantaneous communication, a handwritten letter is a rare and wondrous item. The Letter Writers Alliance is dedicated to preserving this art form; neither long lines, nor late deliveries, nor increasing postal rates will keep us from our mission.

As a member of the Letter Writers Alliance, you will carry on the glorious cultural tradition of letter writing. You will take advantage of every opportunity to send tangible correspondence. Prepare your pen and paper, moisten your tongue, and get ready to write more letters!”

Love Letter Lane

A blog all about writing love letters. Ooh la laaah! Have you written a love letter today? Why in heaven’s name not?? Go on, get going!

Love Story in a Pocket

This is an audio clip from NPR (Feb 10, 2001). The description from the NPR site reads, “Lisa talks with Jeanne Thaggard of Austin, Texas. In the 1920’s, Thaggard’s parents met through the exchange of message in a shirt pocket, sent from the Montgomery Ward shipping center. (8:30)”

Other People’s Mail

An audio clip from a radio show called “This American Life” and it’s all about other people’s mail. You can hear the show divided up into different segments. The web page I’m linking you to has a summary of what’s in the show. Pretty provocative stuff.

Passive Aggressive Notes

A collection of often-hilarious notes that are found posted in various places. Almost always angry and lecturing, and will definitely cause a chuckle or two.

Progressive Secretary

A free letter writing service for those who want to send letters to politicians and other people-of-influence. All letters are devoted to progressive causes. This could be a great way to get your voice heard without having to write the letters from scratch yourself.

Psychotic Letters from Men

Witty commentary on a collection of letters from men that various women have received. While I don’t condone men-bashing, cause men are generally kinda cool, in this particular case I’d make an exception because there’s a strange bunch of wacks here!

Rivertrout

Is it bad for me to play favorites? Sometimes I can’t help myself. This site is really wonderful and touches me deeply.

Sent from the Past

A time-capsule type service that promises to store your letter privately and mail it to the recipient up to 15 years in the future. Really neat gift idea!

So There

Letters unsent, people pouring out their hearts. Love, hate, beauty, pain. This site is a must see.

Swap Bot

This web site helps you coordinate any type of swap you want to participate in. It’s not specifically for letter writing, but it has some letter-themed swaps there. If you can’t find one you like you can start your own.
