Letter Writing Resolution

I spend a lot of time looking for cool letter writing stuff to share with you. Since it’s New Year’s Day I was off work and spent time catching up on my online reading. Mostly in the blogosphere people were talking about either their resolutions for 2009, their hopes/dreams/expectations for the upcoming year and there were many retrospectives of 2008. It was interesting to read what people found important. For me it underscored the beauty of the diversity of the human population — there were people focused on health, money, success, parenting, spirituality. Such variety! And all the posts were filled with optimism and hope. It was a good day of browsing.

The cherry on top was discovering how many people listed “more letter writing” as one of their goals for the new year. Right now there are people who want to write more letters. It’s not just you. They are out there waiting to strike gold on their next trip to the mailbox. Let’s not disappoint them.

What about you? Did you make any letter writing resolutions? Those kind are way more fun than vowing to lose a few extra pounds! So what are your letter writing plans for 2009? Let’s get this party started!

Wendy I love your new website and how you’ve updated it! While I’ve always been passionate about letter writing and personal correspondence, one of the things I’ve vowed to do is send personal notes to a select group of very special people who have been instrumental in helping me complete my dissertation. The manuscript should be complete within the next month or so, and I’m already salivating over my various stationery options on which to send my good news. I am excited about the project and hope the receivers will feel equally touched and special. Your ideas are excellent and I appreciate what you are doing to sustain the written word!

Hope, congrats on getting done with your dissertation. What a big accomplishment.

It takes all of us to keep letter writing alive and there you are doing your part! I’m working on a new page that’s not finished yet called “Shopping”, which will be a collection of cool places to shop for letter writing stuff. It sounds like your dissertation is a great excuse to buy new paper and pens and cards and rubber stamps and stickers and… and… well, you get the idea!

Thanks so much for visiting. The comments keep me inspired. It’s nice to know there are lots of letter lovers out there!

Thank you for your kind response and encouragement, Wendy. It’s very much appreciated.

In regards to your “Shopping” page, you might want to include a link to Dempsey and Carroll’s website (www.dempseyandcarroll.com). Their stationery is truly high-end and exquisite, but right now they are having a sale on their engraved correspondence cards. 100 cards for $195 that includes 1 engraving plate. Fonts and ink colors are limited but it’s quite a bargain from the $350 standard price. No engraved stationery in my arsenal yet however it is fun to look at and imagine. :-)
